Mental Health Professionals & Therapists Workshop 2024

Gillie Jenkinson, accredited psychotherapist, international speaker and a director of Hope Valley Counselling is coming to New Zealand in 2024.

Register Today

The Olive Leaf Network is collaborating with Decult to bring the highly experienced cult-recovery psychotherapist and counsellor, Dr. Gillie Jenkinson, of Hope Valley Counselling in the United Kingdom, to New Zealand. Dr. Jenkinson regularly provides training in the area of post-cult recovery to upskill therapists and frontline professionals, and we are thrilled to facilitate this opportunity for therapists to receive training from her.

There will be two separate events available for training with Dr. Jenkinson:

  1. A two-day in-person workshop for mental health professionals to better equip their support of former members of high-control environments. 21-22 October 2024, Christchurch, New Zealand (directly after the Decult Conference).

The workshop is scheduled to run from 9.00am to 5.00pm on both days. Catering will be provided for morning and afternoon tea, and lunch on both days. The location will be at the Multicultural Recreation Centre in Hagley Park. Catering will be provided.  The earlybird fee is $260.00 until the end of July, then it will increase to $290.00.

Please note that registrations after October 15th may not be able to have lunch catering provided.

  2. A five-day training intensive, primarily suited to therapists or other practitioners who have direct experience with high-demand, coercive or cult-like contexts in their own personal history. This training will use Dr. Gillie’s Walking Free recovery model as a lens for participants to interpret their own experiences, as well as equip them to use it with their own clients in the future. Group size limited to 10 participants. This will be held in Hanmer Springs, South Island from Mon 28th Oct to Fri 1st Nov. Please email support@nz.oliveleaf.network to register interest or receive more information.

For those who want to know more about Dr. Jenkinson and her training, her website can be found here, and we also encourage reviewing her excellent book, ‘Walking Free from the Trauma of Coercive, Cultic and Spiritual Abuse: A Workbook for Recovery and Growth’ (2023).
